ABOUT GRACE

Grace Chiang is one part fearless creative, one part meticulously methodical idea architect. Existing in a perpetual state of melancholic existentialism, she paints the world with introspection wrapped up in an alternative R&B/pop sound. Her lyricism captures the essence of grappling with a fractured sense of self, and the discord between belief and reality. A multi-hyphenate creator, she is equally a songwriter, producer, audio engineer and artist. Never satisfied and ever evolving, you will find her pushing the boundaries of music, thought, and self-expression.

As a second generation Chinese-Canadian, Grace grew up with a two-fold cultural identity that was often in tension. Perfection was, and still is, an unforgiving standard and a ghost to be chased. Grace played classical piano at a young age, then took a hiatus from music until picking up the guitar during her college years. It wasn’t until her late twenties that she allowed herself to express repressed emotional truths in songwriting. Quitting a promising career as a civil engineer, Grace dove in to the unstable path of a musical artist.

Grace’s debut EP, Revisions, is a collaborative project entirely produced, written and engineered alongside five other rising western Canadian artists. Although featuring none of Grace's own lead vocals, Revisions captures every piece of her voice from the grounding kick drums to the atmospheric ambient synth, string and vocal layers. Her latest single, “Cold in Toronto”, is a moody alternative R&B/pop record about leaving a toxic relationship, performed as a duet featuring Nicole Jaskot.
